This week, we signed off on the design of the new Bramcote College Building. Over the last few months, school and Trust staff have worked with the architects from ARK partnerships and the team from Wates, who will be carrying out the build, to design a new school of superb quality which will be a wonderful resource for our community. We have spoken to staff and members of the community, and also considered the views of all stakeholders, including students to make sure that all voices are represented.

The new school will have classrooms to accommodate 800 students initially, from 11-18, and will have the capacity to expand as numbers grow. There will be specialist areas for technology, art and music, as well as seven fully equipped Science labs. We will have a 4-court Sports Hall, with the potential to be used outside school hours as well as during the day, along with IT suites, library spaces, a sixth form common room and study areas and a dedicated SEN hub. I was also delighted that we were able to include a Hall with ‘bleacher’ seating, that can serve as a theatre and performance space with almost 300 seats.
The school will meet very high environmental standards, be safe and secure, and will complement the parkland environment in which it sits. It will be fully accessible for people with disabilities, and be built to a high-quality specification. We are hugely excited about the impact it will have on our students and the local community.
Over the coming school year, the process of detailed planning approval will take place, and there will be opportunities for parents and others to comment. We will be posting the designs on our website in the next few days, and sharing them at the Bramcote College Open Evening on Tuesday 24th September. I am sure that you will share our enthusiasm for the quality of the proposed new college.
Finally, I would like to thank Mrs Gale and her team, and our governors and Trustees who have worked so hard to bring us to this point. We are delighted to be working with Nottinghamshire County Council on the project, who are providing the funding for the school, in return for the Trust returning the lease on the former Coventry Lane playing fields and the old Bramcote School site.
